Upgrade options for ancient PC?

Hello,

I have an older comptuer that I would like to upgrade to get it as fast as I possiblly can without replacing the whole motherboard or getting a whole new PC, but I am not quite sure what my options are for upgrading and I have had a little bit of a hard time finding information about it.

My hardware is:

Gateway2000 P5-133XL
CPU Socket: Socket 5 or 7
Original CPU: 133MHz Pentium
Current CPU: 200MHz Pentium MMX Overdrive
RAM: 128 MB (maximum allowed by chipset)
Internal hardware options: PCI or EISA
BIOS: AMIBIOS 1.00.10.br0t
Chipset: Intel Triton i430
Original Graphics: Matrox MGA Millemium
Current Graphics: ATI XPert 98
Original Sound: Ensoniq Soundscape Wavetable ISA
Current Sound: Creative SoundBlaster16 PCI
Mouse/KB: PS/2 mini DIN ports
Onboard IDE controller: ATA33 with DMA

I know the CPU and Graphics card should be upgradable, but I just dont know what is out there and what will make an impact versus what will not.

Any help with this machine will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I hate to tell you, but as old as that thing is, I doubt if there are any upgrades that would make you notice any improvement in performance, especially with a maximum memory of 128MB

Well I know it is very old and I know RAM can make a big difference, but all I really care about right now is one thing. My family has always liked to watch videos online on websites such as youtube, and that has always worked fine until recently, because recently these sites (especially youtebe) have begun using a different method of rendering the videos (or something like that), and now the audio is broken and the video is only a "picture slide show", but I am convinced that there is some way I can make it work again on this computer because I have a friend who owns multiple computers, most of them are fairly new, but when I told him this problem I am having lately with the videos, he told me that he could not understand why they will not work on my 200 MHz computer because they still work fine on his oldest computer which is a 166MHz AMD machine with only 128 MB of RAM (that is a slower clock speed than mine, and has the same amount of RAM). This is making me wonder if the solution to this problem is possiblly even something as simple as a new graphic card. Either way, because of this, I am convinced that there is a way to make this work.

So does anyone have any ideas of why my friend's PC can do this and mine can not? (And no, I dont know his exact hardware)

Edit: One more thing I forgot to mention is I have already tried using the AMD K6-2 with the power leap upgrade, and I have even tried the flash BIOS upgrade that supposedly makes that work, but without the BIOS upgrade, the K6-2 didnt work at all, and with the BIOS upgrade, the K6-2 worked, but I had no keyboard or mouse inside Windows XP.

I've been out of the PC camp for awhile now just coming back in after getting some decent PC's for free. My main computer is a OS10 Mac. A couple of things you might consider is 1; a graphics card if your video is integrated. Usually stand alone cards are faster and the graphics processor can be used by the operating system for a speed increase. I'm not sure if XP does this but from what I understand Vista does but which obviously doesn't apply to you. 2; Watch processor resources being taxed such as in multiple startup files and multiple windows being open. I'm sure your L2 cache is crap. Shut down everything and hopefully your not on a dial up. If you are, traffic will slow you down. 3!! consider partitioning the hard drive and installing a version of Linux. Linux runs better/faster on legacy machines then Windows OS anything. 4; A faster hard drive for all around faster caching operations with such low ram. Btw, your running XP? on a 200mhz machine with no ram to speak of?

Oh and if you ask around you'd probably be able to get a newer machine for nothing from someone you know. I get them all the time from friends who upgrade. They're usually happy to give them away.
