upgrade or buy new system?

Should I upgrade the memory or processor or both to make the computer faster or just buy a new system altogether I'm not looking for anything fancy just not something slow. But that could also be because my computer has one too many programs on it.

I respect your comments but, buying all components is simply expending money for no cause. Vieya, just needs to update the current one, that will cost low then buying the new one.

Well it depends on the rest of his system specs, I don't see the point in sticking with a P4 as technology has advanced well beyond that, so it wouldn't be much of an upgrade. Going by the information given I would say it would be more worth while doing it all properly now and building a new system, which will save money in the long run.
