Upgrade or not

Hello,

My father has this computer which should be (am I wrong) a little faster than mine (that's already not normal), but he keeps on complaining about how slow it is. The only thing I noticed (cuz I don't spend lots of time on it) is that the mouse often stutters for no apparent reasons. First thing first, there's no way he's getting a new computer for at least 2 years (I really mean at least).

Here is what he does and trust me its far from being moderate use. He uses Internet explorer (1 or 2 windows) or he uses Word (1 or 2 pages documents), he uses iTunes (to add music to his iPod. There is AVG which is running in the background along with Zone Alarm. That is all he does. Besides him, I rarely (2-3 times a year) use excel to do some stuff for his company, if I am on it, I use Firefox or Opera and my mom uses Opera for a maximum of 5 minutes every months.
I may have been lacking in terms of clean-up, but its been less than 6 months since the last time.

Here is his system:

Its a Compaq btw
XP SP2
P4 Prescott 2.66GHZ
2x 256mb RAM
Integrated GPU
160GB HDD which has more than 100GB free. (I use his HDD to store some of my videos)
Mobo is AsusTek Goldfish2

Is there anything worth upgrading on this computer ?
I am assuming RAM, but then again, considering the very mild usage, I am wondering if its even worth it.
Then, am I right to say that considering what he is doing, his computer is actually faster than mine ?

Unless it's really needed , leave it.

But, otherwise you can upgrade the RAM to maybe a gig or two (depends on the mobo) and possibly a decent video card (again, depends on the slot type [PCI, PCI-e or AGP]).

Get CCleaner and maybe even RegCleaner, both are 100% free programs that wipe crap off your computer. Also, whether the RAM is worth upgrading depends on the type, but adding in 256 or another 512mb would do wonders!

if its a wireless mouse it could be that the mouse receiver is being obstructed. also you could set the mouse drivers to high priority by going into the task list and right clicking.

I already use CCleaner regularly (at least once a month), I use Ad-aware too as well as Eusing Registry Cleaner.

The mouse is a wired one.
