I don't know much about computer hardware, so sorry if this is a stupid question.
If I want to upgrade my 2 (2X1) gig system to a 3 gig system, is it ok to just throw another 1 gb stick in there?

Yes if your motherboard has the extra slots. Your more then likely running two 1 gig sticks correct? so if you have 3 slots then yes put another 1 gig stick of ram in there. Also remember though if you want to go higher, if your running windows xp/home or lower, they only allow 3.5 gigs of ram.

yes as long as you have the slots and your motherboard can handle 3gb.

if you only want 3gb then get the extra 1Gb as 2 sticks of 512Mb so you can keep them in dual channel.

If you are running and 32 Bit OS, you can only utilize 3.5 GB or RAM, it's not any specific version of Windows. Only the 64 bit OS's will use more than 3.5 GB.

well ya. but more then likely she has a 32 bit operating system! the windows xp pro 64 bit is more expensive then windows vista home edition!
