Upgrade RAM??

I'm looking to upgrade my PC to handle the very demanding upcoming games. The first thing that I am looking to upgrade is my RAM. I was just going to buy two more 2x512 sticks of the same kind as my current to upgrade from one to two GBs, which should help me handle games quite well. But my current type of RAM (in sig) is no longer sold on Newegg. I figure just stick to Newegg.com but what RAM do u guys reccomend? One or two Sticks?? I'm only looking for one gig to add to my current. Any reccomendations?

I'd recomend a 1gig stick that way u can upgrade to 3 gigs later if you need to(as newer games come out)and if i remember right i think that 1 stick is also a bit faster? but dont quote me on that

No! dont get a 1 gig stick, that wil ruin your dual channel setup. Get come similar OCZ RAM (2X 512) and you should be fine. 4x 512 will run like a dream, speically with good RAM.

What will be the requirements for RAM so that I can run it on dual channel. Im pretty sure it has to be DDR 400 like the kind I have now but any other requirements?? and also to install it I simply just put it in right and it should say new hardware found... Is this correct?

it wont even say New Hardware Found, it will just say you have 2GB of RAM instead of one. A pleasing experience. Just pop the DIMMs into the slots the right way, turn the computer on, and you have two gigs.

You could put any 184pin DDR in there and it would work, but that stuff will work better than almost any other, as it is almost the same thing.

just reading up somebody suggested 1 stick and then upgrading to 3gb, just pointing out that some mobos dont support 3 sticks its either 1, 2 or 4

what are the advantages to dual channel over running 2 sticks by themselves i dont have a lot of experience with higher end ram(which is why i posted what i did sorry)

there are 4 things i find to be the best ways to upgrade a computer for gaming... soon they'll use dual core, so that'd help a lot... video card is always a good thing to upgrade for gaming, memory because games are constantly using more memory, and depending on the game hard drive speed as well...

what games do you plan on playing... or wut types to be specific.... because i find that even with 2gb of ram and 512mb video card memory my rig still can't fully keep up with oblivion all the time... nothing bad just minor this minor that, mostly hard drive lag though. i thought i might go for a 74gb raptor but instead i decided that not only will i build a new rig with a new proc and such, but i'm getting another 80gb to put in RAID 0... which will offer any speed i'll need for quite some time.

btw dual channel means a 128-bit bus instead of a 64-bit bus. i highly suggest using two sticks in dual channel, it greatly increases memory bandwidth... close to doubles it.
