hi i am doing a major upgrade of my pc new mobo new g card and memory
i have a amd 4000+ socket 939 cpu the new mobo will be socket 939 i am wondering if it would be a good idea to upgrade my cpu aswell and if so what to, my pc is mainly used for gaming

Your 4000+ is a pretty good cpu, no need to upgrade unless you really want more power. Few questions before we start piecing options together. How much do you want to spend? What kind of gaming is it used for, if its all the new games then a high end gpu would be advised, like a 7900 or x1900 series, while if its slightly older games you could get away with a much cheaper gpu.

cpu amd 4000+
the games i will play are oblivian
cod uo and cod 2
prey
fear etc,
so would i see an improvement if i upgrade my cpu also do you think the upgrades i am making will be a major improvement.

But what is your budget? I mean those are good options for a mobo and all but your ram is really fine, you may just want to think about a pci-e mobo and a high end video card, since your cpu really is pretty good.

Nothing is wrong with it, just didn't know how big your budget was and didn't want you to waste half of it on ram that won't make as big of an upgrade as the rest of the comps. As for the upgrades it is really what your budget will allow, you should see a pretty big jump from your video card, but like I run a 3700+ and I have no issues with it, but you can pick up a pretty cheap amd chip now with the price cuts, it really a matter of if you want to spend the money. But if you do that then you could also think about getting conroe, or even just jumping up to am2.

thanks for the advice i think ill keep the same cpu and replace the memory ,with the bits i replace i will be halfway to another pc for the kids

Seriously for that budget you could buy a cheaper 939 cpu like a 3500+ slap in an 80GB harddrive and a cd burner/dvd drive, xp home, and you have yourself a new comp, and one that isn't half bad either. All that other stuff you can get for like under $250 US.

Why would he do that when his current computer is better?

Are you kidding me, I am talking about the rest of the stuff to make his "bits" into a computer, not anything to do with his upgrades for his current pc. Read before you think, and think before you post please.
