Upgraded Computer DVD Drive Help

I have just upgraded my computer's motherboard, CPU, and Ram. To avoid having to reinstall Windows XP (to save a lot of time), I had uninstalled pretty much all of my drivers that had the slightest connection to my previous motherboard (including my display drivers, CPU, Firewire, Network card, and others). After replacing my hold hardware with the new hardware, I tried out the computer. Unfortunately, my hard drive, dvd drive, and cd drive all used IDE connection. The new motherboard only had IDE connector but has multiple SATA connectors. So I decided to buy a IDE to SATA connector. I then took out the IDE connector and power cord from my dvd drive and put in the adapter. I then turned on the computer. The computer booted, which was a good sign. However, when it was time to put in the drivers for my new motherboard, I went to open the dvd drive and put the driver disc in. After closing the dvd drive, I waited a few minutes. Nothing happened. It doesn't even show in My Computer that I have the DVD-Rom in the DVD drive. I'm very new to all of this, and this is the first time I've ever attempted changing anything in my computer other than RAM or my power supply. Do I need new drivers for the IDE to SATA adapter? Before these upgrades, my computer is a T6212 Emachines, thus my hard drive and dvd and cd drives only use IDE. Since my motherboard chipset is ATI, should I return my IDE to SATA adapter and get a IDE connecter card for a PCI slot? Or do I have to do something else? Everything works except my dvd and cd drives (and without the new drivers that I have to put in through the DVD-Rom, my computer is virtually useless).

The problem you are gonna have now is that you were using an OEM OS on your emachines and you have upgraded the motherboard which when it comes time for reactivation, it won't work. You should have bought a new OS install cd. So I would recommend buying a sata hard drive and a new OS. Your cd and dvd roms can use the ide connector on your motherboard.

If I were to buy an IDE connector card for a PCI slot, which comes with two IDE slots, would that also get the dvd drive and cd drive to work? If so, would I be able to just put in the motherboard driver disc and install those drivers to make everything work? Also, is the reason that my dvd drive isn't working with the IDE to SATA connector the fact that I haven't installed any drivers for SATA or RAID? If so, is there a way I can do so through a USB drive?
