Upgraded Ram, but not showing up properly.

Specs:

Motherboard: MSI K8MM-ILSR
Max Supported Ram: 2gb DDR (333mhz, 184pin, pc2700)

I bought, 2x1gb DDR 333mhz 184pin pc2700. yet when I boot up my PC, only 1gb shows up. Infact, when I put one stick in, 512mb shows up. (even though it is clearly engraved as 1gb on the sticks, and marked).

This is high density ram. Any idea what the problem could be? ;

Edit: This computer was also recently formatted. clean install of Windows XP Pro, SP2.

I had a similar issue with an MSI board as shown in this thread. The cure for me was to upgrade my bios.

either a bios upgrade or you might need to swap the sticks around at least thats what happen to one of the older 478 mobos.

you should swap the sticks, and check if there are any bios updates
