6 months ago i built a very cheap gaming computer for $500, and now i have Christmas money to upgrade.the games i play are:wow, metro 2033, planetside 2, and other single player games. my current stats are:
case-cooler master 430 elite
psu-corsair builder series 430w
mobo-biostar h61mgc
ram-2x2gb g.skill 1333mHz
cpu-intel celeron g530 with stock cooling
gpu-asus radeon 7750
hdd-250gb 7200rpm western digital(the hdd prices were really high)
others-19 inch 1440x900 monitor, standard keyboard and decent mouse
So, i now have $300 to upgrade my computer, and it must be a full atx motherboard if that is upgraded.I was thinking about getting an amd fx-8320, a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3( so i can OC and because i need a full amd so i have room on my mobo for my pci WiFi adapter),but idk if my psu can support the extra wattage, and my friend can sell me 2x2gb extra ram and a cooler master 212 evo for $10 each. OR i was thinking about getting an amd phenom x4 965, an ASRock 970 Extreme3,the 212 evo and extra 4gb ram, and having $100 left over i can put toward a better gpu or psu if needed. any suggestions or opinions would really help! Oh and i would prefer newegg or amazon, but other sites are OK if it is a lot less. Thanks!

2 ways you can go about it. Graphically, or general performance.

option 1: HD 7850 GPU and a stronger PSU, in the 550 watt range.

Option 2: i3-2100 or i5-2500 processor.

You will likely see more performance from the first option. The G530 is a fine chip, as long as you don't push it really hard. Mine maxxed everything except BF3 when paired to a HD4870.

i really want an atx board though, because mine only has one pci slot so i cannot use my WiFi adapter, a 212 evo wouldn't fit on my mobo, and i have extra ram i can use for the extra slots. So, if i am buying a new mobo anyways, why not switch to a good amd processor and OC?

Interesting. I built my system very similar to yours a month ago.

Intel Celeron G540
Asrock H61M-DGS
2x2gig Gskill 1600 (running at 1066 but at 7-7-7-20 on auto)
Corsair CX430 Bronze PSU
Rosewill ATX case

I upgraded from my AMD X2 3800+ system which is a good system (for me).

I found the CPU surprisingly a fast little sucker and it did pretty good on some 3D games I tried out with the Intel HD graphics but I'm not a gamer really.

Since you use a video card I'd use the Intel Sandy Bridge or the Ivy Bridge CPU for the upgrade. They are some fast suckers.
