hi,

i'm considerin to upgrade my ram which is currently 256mb to probably 512 or 1gb. atm i hav 1 DIMM slot (i think they're called that for puttin memory into...) with a 256mb chip and 1 other DIMM slot which is free. wot i want 2 kno is that if i do upgrade my memory would it ruin my whole computer or would i need 2 apply more power 2 the computer etc i.e if i upgrade my memory would i need 2 upgrade/change other things 2 compensate it?

thnks

p.s here r my specs 4 my computer:

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ (2.08 ghz)
80GB hard drive
256 MB DDR
ATI Radeon 9200 (128MB)

hmm

My first point would be to make sure that your motherboard supports a Dimm of 1GB in one slot. You may need to stick with 512MB. Yet another is to actually consider what you use the PC for. If you are considering gaming, then the performance increase would be considerable but bottlenecked by the graphics card. If you are looking for general program performance and speed, then you should notice a big improvement.

i've just been checkin the stuff u've asked me to check and it says max memory up to 2Gb. therefore i think each DIMM slot can hold upto 1Gb of ram. so wot do u think i shud do buy 1 512mb or 1gb ram chip? also i mainly want 2 improve the performance of general programs and gamin but gamin isn't that important. however if i want 2 upgrade my memory by a little (eg buyin another 256mb ram) 4 gamin it doesn't really matter cos in the end it would still improve the performance of Half Life 2, by loadin it faster etc. therefore upgradin my graphics card isn't important!

cheers

seemin that my 256mb ram is a DDR SDRAM, do i hav 2 buy another DDR SDRAM if i want 2 add more memory?
