Upgrading a laptop, please help = ]

Hello my brother and I want to upgrade a two year old laptop. (version HP pavilion zd7000) [zd7360us]. The laptop has not been proforming too well, we were looking for something that might increase it's speed or decrease lag. We do not know much about laptops so if you could please post some suggestions on which parts to buy.

I think that the ram is 512 mb, I am not sure which parts increase the computer's performance. So please post sugestions here. Will increasing your graphics card help decrease lag while gaming? Curently the graphics card on this laptop is GeForce FX Go5700.

Decrease lag in games? There's really nothing you could do about that. Adding RAM would help slightly, but there's really not too much you could do. Laptops are not exactly made to be upgradable.

This laptop used to be expensive before, it was around $1,800. Would ram or anything else help increase the computer prosses faster in tasks? Or just make it a little bit faster?

To increase gaming performance you would have to upgrade the video card and perhaps the CPU as well, both of which are extremely difficult to upgrade for a laptop. Laptops are not designed to be gaming machines, if you want a gaming rig I think you should go with a desktop.

Yes all new laptops cost a fortune like that and there usually that price just to do basic web browsing, listen to music, watch movies and that. Normal laptops you buy in a normal store won't do you much good for gaming and high performance. Notice how much it costs to get a real good laptop? Over 5000$, you know what kinda desktop you can build with 5000$ ? A KILLER desktop!

I say save your money and get a desktop or don't game on the laptop. There very hard to upgrade and cost a lot to upgrade.

Well adding RAM might help. If he only has 256MB RAM, and the game requires 256MB, its gonna be 256MB - video shared ram = slow performance. Adding RAM should help.
