Upgrading a PC

I got a Dell Dimension 8250 and I am looking to upgrade the processor from an Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHZ to a 3.0GHz processor and I am also looking to upgrade the memory from a 512MB PC1066 to a 1GB or 2GB RAM. I was wondering what you recommended and what was compatible with my computer. Thank you

First of all, welcome to the forums :)

Regarding your question. What is your processor socket? What are you going to use your computer for, gaming? If so, the Pentium4 processors are probably the worst choice.

Let me know some more info on your system and what you plan to do with it. ;)

I'm not sure on the socket but I am looking to use it for gaming. I am also trying not to spend a lot of money probably about 200 dollars tops.

According to Crucial.com that computer has RDRAM which is expensive, $265 for a 512mb stick. Your better off saving your money and building you a new tower with new parts. It wouldn't be cost effective to upgrade anything in that computer.

I have that same machine sitting here behind me (running Smoothwall actually).

It's a socket 478 processor. The RAM is RDRAM. Count on spending $100 for 512MB. Truthfully I have machines here for $300 that would eat it, plus they have 1 GB of RAM, 80 GB harddrives and 3.0GHz processors... What I'm saying, I guess, is that it's not worth it.

Agree with SirKenin. Buying RD Ram is probably more than that PC's worth. I say just get a new PC alltogether.
