As you all know, I'm after a new CPU. But need some help. My Specs are the following so far.
AMD Sempron 1.8Ghz CPU (About 2.4Ghz P4?)
2GB DDR2 Ram
ATI Radeon X1650 512mb Graphics
306gb HDD
Which runs all my games smoothly. But im seeing more and more games slowly are needing more and more power, And its starting to seem like the CPU just cant do it, Or soon won't be able to.
Anyway, My CPU and Motherboard info (Straight from CPUZ) can be seen below.

I also know thats its impossible, Or atleast i've been told to get a dual core. Please avoid posting with the obvious ''Just buy a new PC'' or ''You should just buy a new motherboard''.
I also asked this same question on Yahoo Answers and got mixed messages. Some people said the following.
''I checked with one of my friends who is an HP Technical Rep and his response was:
"IF his board is the NodusM (ASUS A8M2N-LA), manufactured by Asus for HP, it supports a maximum of Athlon64 X2 up to 5000+". ''
Then someone else said.
''You would need to stick with a single core processor, but you could move up in Mhz from 1.8 to 2.6 which would be a kick in the pants for your computer...
Here is a very good deal on a new AMD chip. Newegg.com
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...
This chip will drop rite in your board, but it is the last update you will be able to do... After this you will have to buy a new computer if you want to upgrade any more....''.
So im lost. I just dont want to go out and get a single core then find out i could of bought a dual core. If i cant get a dual core, Would this cpu boost performance by a lot? Most importantly, Would it work. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103239 Thanks!
