Upgrading BIOS

Situation: Can't run aero, despite 256mgb card, and 1gb ram. Have all the right drivers and everything. Alienware support recomends i update the BIOS. How do I do that?

If you read the requirements of Vista and Areo, you need at least a DirectX 9(DX10 recommended) compatible card. Are you sure you have one?

I SERIOUSLY doubt upgrading the bios would do anything...

When first installing Vista the default desktop is already set for the new Aero style then. This is controlled by the desktop "themes" in the right click menu for the desktop itself. The screen capture here shows how the settings appear while in the default high contrast style.

Vista already has DX10 included in it. Here two versions of XP and Vista reside on the same system. Video drivers for the ATI card have never been a problem even when running the beta version released for RC1. You may have seen a bad install of Vista or simply need the installation disk in the optical drive used and type "sfc /scannow" at the Run prompt to see this will replace any incomplete or missing files. Even with only 1gb the Aero style should load normally with the basic install.

The screen shot below shows just how the Vista desktop looked upon completion with only the initial drivers and screen capture installed. Note the sidebar was still seen before disabling that and the Aero style is clearly seen.
