Mobo/CPU: http://www.smksuperstore.com/catalog/viewitem.asp?ID=13671

If you've tried any of these and had problems, tell me so that I don't waste my money on a POC component.

All together it's $284 and I will have about that much in about a month or less.

What is the system for? I'd save a bit of money by ditching the sound card, and discrete video card (that type of VC is worse than integrated).

Go with at least a reasonably modern platform. Here's one idea:

Asus P5VDC-MX (no PCI-E x16 slot, but that's the price we pay for a reliable board that cheap)
Pentium D 805
For $13 more than your mobo/CPU combo we have a reasonably modern Dual Core CPU, money that is more than recovered by ditching the VC. This also gives you the option of DDR2 RAM. By ditching the sound card, you can afford an upgrade to 1GB DDR2 RAM.

A few dollars cheaper overall, and a more powerful system.

Make sure your current PSU is up to the task of powering your new system.

The system will be for High School work, music, videos, internet, limewire, and games. The Pentium D 805 has less Ghz than the one I chose, why's it better??

Because it is dual core. The one you listed has only one core making it better for single-threaded applications but not multi-threaded. You want dual-core.

Alright, thanks, I'll probobly be getting that than.

BTW do any of you know if the Asus P5VDC-MX will fit in a dell dimension XPS T500 case?? Would I have troubles installing it(I don't mean holes not match up, if that happens I can always make adjustments to the case to make it work) And are you 100% sure that the CPU will work with the Asus mobo?

If it is for games why are you getting a 32mb AGP card?
You should upgrade to 1GB RAM too.

I am ugrading to 1 gig, and what do you mean "If it is for games why are you getting a 32mb AGP card?", does 32 MB suck for games??

If you want to game I wouldnt get anything under 128MB AGP. This pc your building will not run the new high end games, maybe on the lowest settings. This pc should be able to handle CS 1.6 and WoW.

Your upgrading every part of your current pc, why not build a new one??

okay, do you have any suggestions of a cheap video card over 128MB??

That's pretty much what I am doing, I'm building a new computer, but using the case I have now.

Does anyone know a good cheap mobo with 4 or 5(I'd only use 4 for now, but I'd like a little room for future upgrades) that supports the Pentium D 805

should I get a new case too? because that seems like a waste of money if I have a perfectly fine one right next to me, lol

I really dont think you need 5 PCI slots. I havent seen a mobo with 5.

I think that the one that I posted the link for at the top of the page had 5, the one I have now has 4, I need 4 because I have an ethernet and phone card, then soon I'll be getting a TV tuner, and sound card. So I guess I don't need 5, but they might have some killer compontent that'll come out in the future that uses the PCI slot, and that would suck for that too happen, than not have an extra PCI slot open, I guess I could just take out the phone card and set it aside for if we ever get dial up again, but I don't know.

BAm, that mobo has dual gigabit ethernet, so you dont need that ethernet card, its soundcard is okay, wont need to be upgraded unless you spend $500+ on speakers, and shit, dont worry about room, that motherboard will be fine, you can stick a TV tuner on there and be fine

oh yeah, god, I must be retarded or something, I forgot that it has a better ethernet card than I've got now, built in and everything, do you know about how good it's sound card is?? My speakers is just 1 speaker for a TV that I spliced with an old speaker's connecter to work on my computer. I probobly wont have to upgrade the sound card, and I can take out the ethernet and phone card, than put in the TV tuner and be all good to go, and maybe later upgrade the video card, I think for now I'm going to just get the 32MB video card for $15

dude, you dont want that videocard.... im telling you right now its shit.... you would still need to use your moden (phone card) if you use dialup
