Looking to maybe update my old desktop to run games cleaner.
3200+ (2GHz) AMD Athlon 64 Processor
512MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM Memory
Nvidia GeFore FX5200XJ AGP 8X Graphics 128MB DDR Video Memory

Hp Pavilion a530n

Looking to upgrade for around $250-$300

Any upgrades that could make my computer run games faster and with less lag, thanks

What kind of games? If you mean anything since '06, then you're gonna need much more RAM, a new video card (PCI now, so that means a new motherboard too), and probably a new CPU (seeing as you're going to need a new motherboard, and yours is - no offence - quite underpowered for gaming).

By cleaner, what do you mean? Smoother, higher settings, higher framerate etc. Depending on what you want to run, it might be easier to get a new PC (sorry, bad news).

Hmm, sounds like I should just scrap it, haha. I've been looking at all my options buying a new one, building one, or just upgrading one. I guess upgrading is out of it, building is just a hassle (shipping, never done it before, no montior). Thanks for the help though

Yeah I had a similar setup and the only option now is to replace it all. You can keep the hard drive(s) and dvd drive but most of what you need isn't compatible with your board. Depending on what you want you can probably spend around 500 and make out okay. From what I hear the video card is what you need to pay the most attention to when buying though...

You would have to get a new motherboard, new ram, new processor, and a new graphics card.

You could get the motherboard, ram, and CPU with that budget.... but might squeezing it with a new graphics card...
