Upgrading Computer

I would like to upgrade my computer but I don't exactly know what I need to buy. It's been so long since I've built a computer, I guess I got left behind and now all of this new technology is bombarding me from both sides.
*You'll have to excuse the rhyming* :)

I would like to purchase the following
-CPU
-Motherboard
-Memory (If needed)
-Full Tower Case (If Possible)

My current computer has the following:
-CPU: 1.6 GHZ P4 Socket 478
-Motherboard: Abit SD7-533
-Memory: 768MB DDR PC2100

I would mainly use the computer for doing research, watching movies, and downloading\Uploading files. My spending limit is only $300-$350.00, I hope I can get something decent. :confused:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

That's going to be tight leaving any new AMD or Intel model boards out. For a build that will handle everything there but not be as new as you would prefer a Socket 939 AMD board(Asus-Gigabyte-MSI preferred here) there are some board+cpu bundles that help save on cost that way. DDR400 PC3200 will be cheaper then DDR2 where you can slip in 1gb for a start.

You may want to go after 2gb however. Your main problem will be the power supply id the model you have now doesn't have the 20+4 or 24pin main power connector for the newer model boards out. The best selection on full or mid atx tower cases is seen at http://www.xoxide.com/pccases.html You can use the advanced search option to narrow down the models seen there.

One Asus A8N5X Socket 939 board is seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131569 For memory you can go with a pair of 512mb dimms for about $75 like the Corsair Value Ram seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145440
 
A micro atx board? That leaves no room for later expansion. G.Skill is far less quality then Corsair, Kingston, Crucial, Mushkin, Patriot, and the far more expensive OCZ memory.

push for this, its the best. or you can wait until may when the e6320 comes out for 163 (end of april) and it would be better than this setup, and all the prices will drop. personally id wait till then, although it will be hard

The cost total there is $400! not $350 with a case included. oops! He's also not looking for the latest bells and whistles in a build but one adequate for the application there.
