Upgrading CPU

Should I get the the i5 8600K or the i7 8700K?

Mainly play WoW on one monitor and anything from streaming movies to running ableton live or FL studio on other monitor.

Currently have an i5 2500K, starts to bog down when I get to many things going at once.

Will you be overclocking?

If not, I'd consider the Ryzen 7 2700X, as it is cheaper, has better multi-thread performance, and includes a heatsink and fan (K series Intel processors no longer do, so you'd have to buy an aftermarket cooling solution).

If you'd like to go cheaper, the Ryzen 5 2600X would probably serve you better than the 8600K, if you're not overclocking because of the much higher thread count.

Here are the performance differences, which is best for you depends on prices and what is more important to you:

8600k vs 8700k: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-8600K/3937vs3941

If you are using programs like ableton live or FL studio, you may want to also consider the 2600X and the 2700X:

8600k vs 2600x: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8600K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-2600X/3941vs3956

The 2600x will a great gaming cpu and programs like ableton live or FL studio will likely benefit from the higher multicore performance.

8600k vs 2700x: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8600K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-2700X/3941vs3958

The multicore performance of the AMD destroys the Intel, it would be much better in programs like ableton live and FL studio.

8700k vs 2700x: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-2700X/3937vs3958

Here the AMD has significantly faster multicore performance, but the 8700k is the faster gaming cpu:

In your situation I personally would go for one of the AMD's, they will game just fine and will perform well in the types of programs you want to use.
