Someone else asked. Has a newer Dell with windows 7.
Thinking about upgrading to windows 10 if he can.
Other question is when he bought the dell he bought Microsoft office
and a Adobe program that was reinstalled. his concern is if upgrading
to 10 he might not have the programs or be able to use or download. anybody know what
the policy is.

You can only install that software on one computer (unless it's a multi-use copy of office). Because it's the only computer he's using it on, he can reinstall it on that computer after upgrading to Windows 10.

If he upgrades it shouldn't lose any of the programs, however it will warn if anything will be lost before continuing during the install.

I think he is thinking the way i am. a full install and wipe clean
then new installation. thats the way i will do it this winter.
trying to stay outside right now. winters coming.
thanks

After upgrading to Windows 10 on my three computers (1 of them ran on W7), I can truly say the upgrade is kind of painless if you have a full size computer with enough ram and disk space.

The upgrade will not render Office or other Adobe programs unusable. It may affect some hardware because of driver issue. You may have to go to the software vendor and download one that is compatible to W10. But most of them, if the hardware is relatively new and popular, are fixed automatically by the upgrading process.

You can also reverse back to the original OS if you don't like it. There is no reason to do a clean install unless you enjoy reloading all the applications that you may not even know it's there.

My only advise is, for the safe of mind, create a mirror or image of the harddrive before you do the update so you can always "hard wired" the restoration if everything else fails.
