hey all I'm having trouble playing games online such as battlefield bad company 2 and team fortress 2, i've asked around and the people i ask say its because of my processor. Here is what I have installed currently,

-intel e2200 dual core cpu at 2.4 ghz
-GTS 250 1gb
-4 gigs ddr2 (which score 4.6 in WIE for some reason)

So, if i upgraded my cpu to the e6700 dual core cpu at 3.2 GHz will these games be playable at like 25-30 fps? I just want to make sure before I spend the 100 dollars upgrading to it.

and no my motherboard doesnt support a quad core or i woulda looked into that a long time ago =p

thanks in advance

Should improve performance alot in gaming - but don't expect good framerates on very high settings. Apart from that, your system components look good from what you've written.
25-30fps should be achievable easily on medium settings for most games.

It's a decent upgrade....newer wolfdale 45nm architecture and higher clockspeed. The gts250 will probably be a bottleneck before the CPU then, depending on the resolution you game at.

BTW, your WEI score on the ram, do you have the ram in the correct slots so it runs in dual channel mode? Sometimes the ram sticks need to be seperated 1 slot between each other. Typically just put them in the same color slots. What motherboard do you have?

If you have or download CPUz, you can check to see if it's running dual channel or not in the memory tab.

Actually my RAM is running single channel but it IS ddr2, and my system is a prebuilt system so i have no idea how they could be placed the wrong way, besides there are only 2 slots for ram on my motherboard.

I actually went along with this upgrade and got the e6700 and it installed fine but i hardly saw if there was at all an increase in battlefield 2. even the WIE rating went down from 5.2 to 4.6. I know my processor is being cooled correctly so I dont know why else it would do this...

help please? :(

Also looking at this CPU-Z thing i noticed that my multiplier on my processor keeps changing from 12 to 6 and vice versa, rendering my speed from 1.6 - 3.2 back and forth repeatedly, is this normal when just browsing web? i havent looked at the multiplier while in a game.

My PC was originally the hp a6500f but i upgraded the psu, put in a Geforce gts 250 1gb, and now just upgraded to the e6700. I have a foxconn MCP73M01H1 (NAPA) motherboard.
