Upgrading from a 256MB Radeon X1600 (PCI)

What would be a video card that would yield noticeable (but not necessarily cutting-edge or massive) increase in gaming performance in the $100-$200 range? Should I stick with ATI or jump to Nvidia? I have not had any problems with my ATI.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Also, does anyone know of a site that compares various video cards in terms of performance?

I just missed one great MSI ATI driven card when ordering an RX2600XT 512mb model with a 1400mhz memory and 850mhz core clock for one seen for $5 more with a $10 mail in rebate seeing a 2300mhz memory on the MSI RX2600XT Diamond model seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127305

And that is now seen for only $1 more then seen on the one ordered here. Apparently newegg waits until the slower model starts selling and then brings out a better model with a deal. It was just seen for #139.99 now seen for $136.99 with the same $10 rebate offer. For an ATI driven DX10 capatible card that's a good choice there.

The card pc eye suggested is a pci-e, it won't work on an old pci slot so make sure you have a pci-e rather than a pci before buying

According to Control Panel -> Display -> Adapter -> Properties it's location is PCI slot 1, so I assume that means I have a regular old PCI slot/card? How can I check to see if my motherboard has a PCI-e slot?

My comp is an HP-built model I got about a year ago, so the X1600 card is not a new release or anything.

That comparison fails to list the newer RX2600XT Diamond models out showing the one bought here with a 1400mhz memory clock not the new Diamond model seeing a faster 2300mhz memory over the 8600's 2100mhz. The new model has a 850mhz core not 800mhz seen at that link where it simply isn't seen.

The link there shows the RX2600XT bought here with a 1400mhz memory and 800mhz core clock. The link posted earlier is for a newer Diamond model seeing a 850mhz core with a 2300mhz memory clock over the 8600's 730mhz core and 2100mhz memory clock there. This is one reason why the early reviews seen on the R600 models place them past the 8800 line too. :D

Its still not going to beat a 8600GTS

Just the early reviews on the R600 series chips placed those over the 8800 lineup. Where does that leave the 8600s?

The R600, that means nothing, the 2900 is a R600 too. I said the 2600XT is not going to beat a 8600GTS, ((show me a link where it does))Over all in DirectX9 its about the same as a good 7600GT, now where near a 8600GTS

If I upgraded to any of these aforementioned cards, would I need to get a new power supply? I think I'm running a 300 watt power supply right now. On the power supply itself it says max continuous power output equal to 350W, but before that it says 300W.
