Upgrading from Vista

Hey guys,

I've talked about upgrading my GF's laptop before and I still can't decide what OS. I'm going to stay with Microsoft, either 7 or 8 pro.

First question is, will her laptop run it? It's an HP Pavillion DV6 with:
  • Vista Home Premium 32-bit
  • AMD Athlon x2 Dual COre QL-65
  • 4GB RAM
  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 series

I found Win8 pro upgrade on sale on an online website for 50 euros instead of 280 euros. Is it worth it or should I buy 7?

It should run either one just fine. Windows 8 is upgraded as far as speed is concerned, so it may run faster on an older laptop like that one.

That is as long as HP put out the Display driver for windows 8.

In July 2010 I bought a Compaq (run by HP) Presario CQ62-219wm with 2GB and 2.2 GHz Intel Celeron single core and Windows 7 64 bit and upgraded to Windows 8 flawlessly 2 weeks ago. your computer should be just fine.

I finally installed Start8 a few days ago cause the Start Screen was getting annoying...

I can't comment fully, but sister has yet to say anything about programs not working, besides an editing applet that needed XP SP1 to run, and it was easy to set up a VM for her.
