Upgrading Graphics Card

Ok, so Im upgrading my eMachines Integrated Geforce 4 mx to using the agp slot with a XFX Geforce 6800...

I have the card, when I insert the card into the computer and turn the computer on it makes a high pitch beep and no connection is given to the monitor from the comp.

i took out the new card...turned on the comp (off my integrated graphics) went into my bios and looked for a way to disable the onboard video but i cant find anything that says that. i found an option that said "enable agp" or enable "pci"... i assumed agp would be it, so i selected agp. i turned off the comp again, inserted the card into the agp.. now i thought itd work for sure..i turn it on, i get the same beeping.

im out of ideas. what do i do? any help please

thanks in advanced,
alex

i bet its 1 of 2 things, either you didnt hook up a power source to the video card, or your power supply isnt powerful enough. What do you have for a PSU?

Bingo.

I've forgot to reattach the cable to my 6800GT after cleaning inside the case once. Wow that was the loudest beep I heard in awhile.

ok, ya i found out late last night that i forgot to plug it in to the psu. so i did that, closed it back up turned it on.... now its just not doing anything at all.

the computer powers on, sounds like everythings good to go in the comp (everythings running fine) but my monitor isnt making any connection with the graphics card. my monitor is acting like the computer is off. any suggestions?

thx

OK so to start at the very basics of basics. Did you remember to save bios settings after enabling AGP? Also make sure all connections monitor to video card etc. is connected firmly.

Now that I think about it, I changed the bios before I even got the card plugged into the psu. so what im gonna try is go into my bios, make sure its set to agp (it doesnt seem like it is since i thought i changed the bios, yet im still running on the integrated because thats how im talking to you right now) and then put in the card. hopefuly it works.

does anyone know where the video disable jumper is on the board? i was told that would help too if i could i find it.

im gonna go try the bios again though. thanks, if you have any more ideas to help me please respond :)

Im not sure if my psu isnt powerful enough. but i think it is. i dont know what i have for one, its the standard one in the emachines t3256. the computer comes with a standard 8x agp slot, so i assume it can handle a pretty basic card like the xfx 6800. i hope :)

Problems been fixed:

I called eMachines and their customer service did a perfect job helping me out. All I had to do was go into safe mode, then go to start > control panel > classic view > system > hardware > device manager > sound, video and game controlers .... then disable anything that has to do with video.

turn off the comp, install the card. turn it on, it starts up normaly. then install the software and im done.

thanks to everyone who helped.

emachines has pretty good customer service the guy i talked to was really nice and pretty cool. seemed like a real person rather than just some customer service.
