upgrading hard drive

I purchased a refurbished Lenovo laptop from my work, and it came with a 40 gig hard drive. I'm looking to put in a new, larger one, but I never received any windows xp disks with the laptop. Compounding the problem is that I put Ubuntu on half the disk. I'm wondering if it's possible to clone the hard drive, move that information to the new disk and expand the partitions? I'd be fine with getting the contents of the disk to the new hard drive, then deleting the ubuntu partition if I had to. The ultimate goal is to have 80 gigs or more for xp on the new drive.

I'm pretty sure it's possible, though never done it. I do however know that you should be able to ask the manufacturer for another os disk which i'd do in case you ever have to reinstall.
