Okay wellll. I have a HP DC7600.

It has a LGA775 Intel 945 chipset. 800mhz FSB

My computers processor is a 2.8Ghz Prescott HT(Hyper Threading). Its a 90nm.

Anyways. I want to get a dual core processor for it, and since its the 945 chipset i heard its possible, vs the LGA775 915 chipset, which isn't.

I was thinking maybe http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116074

It is a 2.6Ghz Dual Core..

Now my question is the nm (nanometers?) Now my processor is a 90nm. Will i be able to use a 45nm or 65nm processor in my pc? and does this all look good to you guys?

Do you know the exact model of your motherboard?

So what would be the best course of action if i wanted to upgrade my processor? I want to do it under $100 hopefully..

Aswell as keeping in mind i believe im only 800mhz on my FSB..

you have a 2.8ghz HT and want a 2.6 dual core. there will be little to no performance upgrade.

He is talking about E5300 (Which is based on Core 2 Duo architecture)

It is much faster than his Pentium 4

Is it really that much faster?

And what about the whole "nm" thing?

Would there be an issue going from 90nm to 45nm? Would there be an issue with fitting it in and having it work?

Alrighty then, whats the huge difference between them other than 100mhz? haha. So whats the deal with the "nm" can someone explain that please? Is it a requirement, or just really the size and "spiffy" that it's smaller? Haha.

Oh, and i have a 350W Power supply. My specs are so far..

If i was to get the E5200 or E5300, and a decent 1GB Video Card, would i really need a power supply upgrade aswell?
