any advice greatly apppreciated

Thanks 2048

Cheers for that pal it's definatly something to think about mayby i'll wait a bit longer and see what comes along, £130 is a bit much but i suppose it would last longer, it's 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other init, cheers

what about this one

AMD Phenom II 550 3.1GHz 6MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 Retail Box Processor

what would this processor offer me in terms or better speed than my x2 4800 one considering ive only got onboard GFX and SND at the moment I know my 4800 has 2mb of cache and a 2.5 Ghz clock speed, but some people are saying numbers dont mean anything anymore is this right?

The Phenom II 550 (3.1 gigahertz) Dual-Core has more processing power than the Athlon 4800+ Dual-Core Processor. I think it has about 60 percent more powerful than an Athlon 4800+ Processor. It can perform more calculations per clock cycle than the Athlon 4800+, it runs at a higher clock speed and it has more high speed memory on the chip.

The Phenom II 550 might better for gaming than the Athlon II 425 Tri-Core because of the extra cache it has. If I were going to go for a triple-core processor I would go with the Phenom II 720 Tri-Core. That has the same amount of Level 3 cache as the Phenom II 550 Processor.

I definitely agree with Daisymtc about buying a decent video card for your system.

I am sure Phenom IIx 2 550 is better than Athlon II x3 425 on gaming. However, Phenom IIx2 550 is at £70. Athlon II x3 425 OEM bang on £50
