Upgrading my PSU

I am looking to buy a new PSU since I have concluded that my current PSU is giving me trouble.

I am looking at a few Corsair models. I currently have my eye set on this one:

One thing I like about this one is it has a 7 year warranty.

One question is would a modular PSU be worth it? That same model without being modular is about 50 bucks cheaper.

I want something that will give me enough room to upgrade in the future. Right now I would like to upgrade my GPU to a directx11 card like the new Nvidia 300 series or the high end ATI 5000 series card. I want to make sure the PSU can handle it.

Which is better, a single +12 volt rail or multiple +12 volt rails.

As for a budget, I would like to keep it at $150 or lower.

Anybody have any better suggestions?
 
Yep, it would power are card like "the Fermi" or an ATi 5xxx card. If your case has easy ways to manage cables, you wouldn't need a modular PSU, a modular PSU is really to get rid of the extra wires crowding up a case for better airflow and... appearance :D
 
Isn't that a full-tower case? I'd imagine they'd have excellent cable management. Pics? I can't really tell if they'd do good from the pictures off Newegg.
The TT Armor is atrocious for cable management.

This is a really great balance between price and cable management, semi modular but mostly only has the cables you need hardwired, super low ripple, and super quiet:

I really don't care too much for modding anything.

Anybody else have suggestions for the PSU?

What exactly is the difference between modular and standard PSU's? I know modular makes it easier to do cable management.

Let's say I go with a 750 watt, don't know which one yet but I am liking the Corsair. If I decide to upgrade to the CPU to an Core i7, 6 gigs of ram and the Fermi series card, would 750 watts be enough?

What about the +12 volts rail? Which is better, a single +12 volt rail or multiple +12 volt rails?

A 750w PSU should be plenty for a single card application.

Most would say a single rail is better because you don't have to pay attention to what rails are feeding certain things...like you can put too much load on one of the rails understand?
 
I don't think I would ever buy a recertified piece of equipment that has to do with computers.

I decided to go with the Corsair 850HX. I was a little expensive but I think it will be worth it in the long run. I can't wait to get this thing installed. I will post pics after I install it hopefully by the end of the week(just ordered it today).

If I send in the rebate, would I void the warranty? If it does, I will not mess with the rebate.
 
Nice, you won't regret that purchase.

Well, not sure on that. I think thats BS if it does void the warranty.
 
The only difference is after you send in for the rebate, if it goes out in the first 30 days you have to return it to Corsair instead of Newegg. Most of the time you need to cut out the bar code on the box for the rebate, hence newegg wont take it back.

If you are dealing with something warranty related, you would be dealing with Corsair and not Newegg.
