Upgrading, need advice please (SLi related)

Hi,

I have decided to upgrade my system, which was built last February.

The old parts:

  • Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe nForce 570 SLI
  • AMD AM2 Athlon 64 x2 5000

The new parts:

  • Asus M4N82 Deluxe nForce 980a SLi PCI-Express DDR2
  • AMD AM2+ Phenom II X4 940 3.0Ghz

Re-used parts:

  • Coolermaster 520W PSU
  • BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC 512Mb PCIe 2.0
  • Corsair XMS2 2GB (4x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5
  • Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 64
  • A couple of Optical Drives, and a card reader
  • 500Gb Samsung Spinpoint HDD

It's all housed inside a Coolermaster Dominator CM690, with a windowed side panel.

What I'd like to know is, which would be the best way to upgrade the graphics card(s). My budget is growing, and in about 2 months I could afford 2 x Geforce GTX 250 - but would I see much of a performance gain from my 9800?

I am currently using a DGM 22" Monitor - I believe this has something to do with SLi being any use?

Any advice will be much appreciated!

I don't know that your powersupply would be enough to handle two GTS 250's. but it could easily handle a 4870, which is a nice card. about equal to the GTX 260.

By the way, a GTS 250 is just a rebranded 9800GTX+, they are very similar in performance.
 
CPU - I recommend Phenom II x 4 955

Video card - Do you mean get an extra GTS 250 to run SLi? I don't know if your PSU could handle them...

I thought I may need to up the power a bit if I were to have dual cards.

So the 250 is effectively a 9800 GTX+, would I then be able to run one of these cards alongside my current 9800? I am guessing not.

Thanks, but I have upgraded the CPU to a Phenom II x 4 940.

If I uprated the power could I run a 250 alongside the 9800?
