Upgrading Processor?

Hi, I'm thinking about upgrading my Dell Dimension B110 which is very old. I currently own a Dell Studio 1555 which plays some games and i don't mind seeing how its a laptop. But i was thinking about upgrading my Dell Desktop (info on computers in signature) so i could play more powerful games. So should i just build a new computer, or upgrade my Dell Desktop? I already own a hard drive, and a very good video card from my other HP which recently died. So I'm basically thinking of upgrading my desktop to a more powerful PC. Since it currently can't do much, cant even play HD vids on youtube. I'm asking for advice on how to do it and if i even can. Thanks! :D

No good. The CPU is old and can't be upgraded past a single core Pentium 4, and as far as I can tell there's no place to put a video card.

What video card do you have, anyway? If it's the HD 2400 in your sig, that isn't going to be doing a lot of serious gaming...the one in your laptop is more powerful.

What games are you wanting to play?

yeah i thought it was to old, and the video card i own is a PCI E, new
ATI FireGL V5600 Video Card. My other desktop just died. So I'm looking to build a new one since i hear its cheaper.

And some games, Sims 3, Resident evil 5. My laptop cant seem to play those very well.

that gpu is for cad or 3d design so it will be not good for playing games (ask someone else as not sure), go for an ati HD4series or HD5series

also if your on a budget build an amd phenomII quad or if you got money to spend by the intel corei7 860

Well im currently thinking about building my own PC. The one im thinking of im going to put into my old HP casing. Which would same money so im thinking about getting the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, with a Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H Motherboard. Which should do what i want.

What's your budget for the new PC? What all do you need beyond the tower? (OS, peripherals, etc..)

Most workstation cards are almost identical to their mainstream counterparts. They're fine for gaming.

However, that's an older card anyway...you'll want a newer one.

Well, i already have a hard drive, and a case. So basically all i need is a mobo, and a processor with a fan. And probably Ram. which i found a good deal on tiger direct. where I'm probably going to get my items. But this would be my first pc I'm going to build so ill need to pointers. thanks :D

Yes they are. Newegg is widely regarded as the best place on the internet to buy computer parts, and other things as well. They have the best customer service in the business.

Zipzoomfly is a bit smaller than newegg, but if you looks at their reviews you'll see that they have great service as well. They also have free shipping on almost everything.

Take a look at the following parts below. The Phenom II 955 has almost the same processing power of the Phenom II 965 and is $19 less in price.

You need to buy a new video card, a new Windows Installation disk and you may also have to buy a new case.

Here is a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Installation Disk for $100:
