hello,
my computer friend told me i could upgrade my current single core processor to a quad core, but not sure how much he actually knows about this sort of thing. My motherboard is an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. my current processor is an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor 4000+ 2.40GHz. Im running it with 3.00GB of RAM. Please could anyone tell me what i can upgrade it to ( dual core, quad core, what make etc?) Or do i need a new motherboard as well? I dont really want to spend more than £80. Thanks:)

The socket 939 platform is very dated, and most likely the only option you have is to buy used processors from eBay or similar sites. I know you can run a dual-core, but I don't believe they made quad-core 939 CPU's.

You're best bet is to upgrade the processor, motherboard, and RAM at the same time.

Yep the fastest 939 CPU out there is the Athlon 64 FX-60 which is a dual-core. There weren't any quad-cores for 939, sorry.

If you want a quad-core you need to upgrade your board and RAM as well as your CPU, like WRX said above.
