Hi folks
I am currently running a fairly old computer (1.06g AMD atthlon) and want to upgrade to something faster and with more memory.

I am wondering whether I should just bite the bullet and start again or try and replace the components of my current setup. I am on a limited budget and have access to regular computer fairs with good prices on a wide range of hardware.

I obviously will need to buy a new CPU (preferably P4 with 3+ghz) and figure I will probably need a new motherboard. I figure I could save some cash by not needing a new box, monitor, cdrom or cdr/rw drives or power supply. I am also keen to update my version of Office.

Is this the better way to go or should I just pay the extra cash (I am guessing about 2 to 2.5 times more) for a complete new system?
Thanks

yes, you can do that all you need to do is to buy a motherboard, Processor, and new memory. all the rest is fine. Just make sure that the motherboard you buy fits your old case. I did the same thing i used the harddrive, cd drives, floppy, ect. from my old computer.

Why not see if the mobo you have can take a faster AMD cpu and bigger memory. This would save all the bother of looking for a new mobo. See if you can get a name or number from the mothreboard and have a look at the website you may just suprise yourself with what the board can take..

Dude stop shouting..

It'l be hard to find a new cpu capable of running on such an old motherboard anyway. Might as well start over & build a modern computer.

What budget are you on?
