Upgrading Question

So i want to install win7 on a friends pc which has a cracked version of windows xp. I have never installed an OS just wondering do I need to format the hd? Or do i just pop in the disk and im good 2 go?

You should format the drive if it has a cracked version of an operating system, start from scratch, and make sure Windows 7 is a legitimate copy that has been purchased!

The windows 7 install cd will do this when setting up windows 7. Delete the existing partitions and then repartition and then format and install.

Are you familiar with installing XP and deleting partitions and remaking them? Wndows 7 is basically the same way.

Follow this guide and it will show you how to do a fresh install of windows.
