i am upgrading the ram on my friends computer. all i have with me is the packing list with the computer details on it.
the ram is pc2 4200u 533 mhz ddr2 sdram. i have two slots and each slot is 1 gig max for a total of 2 gigs. the computer is a hp pavilion 1200y. i called hp and they tried to sell me 2 gigs of ram for $400 and they said it was specially designed for this computer and if i bought ram anywhere else might not work. my question is as long as i get the proper ram will i have any problems? also i don't know if it is dual channel or not. there are alot of different brands of ram on newegg for $60 to $80. is one brand better or faster than the other? all help is greatly appreciated.
