Upgrading RAM

I am thinking about upgrading the RAM in my computer. I am currently using Kingston Value RAM 800mhz DDR2.

I have been looking around and it seems I can get either 4GB 1066MHz DDR2 RAM or 2GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM for about the same price (yes, my motherboard supports both).

Which do you think would benefit me most (considering my current PC specs - see sig)?

My plan is to ditch the Value RAM as I am pretty sure thats whats holding me back from OC my CPU further.

any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Dave.

How many RAM slots does you system have?

I am only asking as if it can take 4 sticks then as another option you could get 8GB of 800MHz RAM for a little more than 4GB 1066MHz RAM and the 8GB would give you much more performance.

Just a thought;)

it has 4 slots for DDR2 and 2 for DDR3. I don't think I would utilise 8GB...and im using a 32-bit OS...

Yeah, I'd go with that Corsair, the timings are slightly lower, and they're cheaper.

yeah, thats why I was thinking!

Now I just need to gather the funds :D hehe.

thanks for the help guys! :D

We have a problem.

If you have a 32 bit OS you won't be able to use all 4GB, you will use 3.5GB of it but the other half a gig will be going to waste. Obviously it isn't that much really but it will be noticeable.

as far as I am aware the other .5 is not wasted, it is used in another way by windows, it isnt shown though.

Anyways, i would rather buy a 4GB kit that I can run in dual channel rather than 3.5GB in random sticks.

I didn't know it was only not shown, i thought it could only utilize that much unless you had a 64 bit OS.

And you can't get 3.5GB in random sticks unless you are extremely lucky because they must be matched.

I always thought that you could get 1.5GB or 3GB of RAM but not 3.5GB because they must be triple channel, so 3x512MB sticks or 3x1024MB sticks to equal that much?
