i got an old emachines w2047, with 96mb ram, 1.66ghz processor, and a lousy graphics card, im putting in a gig of ram in a week, and most likely a graphics card next month, what kinda of graphics card should i get? im mostly just trying to get some operation flashpoint going...

but im also going to be getting a whole new better computer soon. i want to be able to quite easily play Armed Assault... i know that requires a 3 Ghz processor, and a gig or 2 of ram, but what processor and video card work best for armed assault?

Reccomended Specs
Operating system: Windows XP
Processor: Pentium 3 GHz
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Video card: Nvidia 6800 and better or Ati x800 and better with minimum of 256 MB RAM

I'd reccomend a Pentium E2160 or an Core 2 Duo E4400 depending on your budget. For the video card a 7600Gt or 8600GT. These totally depend on if your computer has the right socket for easch part.

so i can upgrade my old emachines into a good gaming computer?

oh, and when theres a core 2 duo, and it says 2GHz, is it actually 4GHz?!?

no. your old machine will never be able to play new games reasonably. old games yes. but the amount that you would need to put into your old computer would make it completely pointless. you can build your own easily or buy a decent pre-built system for under $1000 and have it play new games well.

ARMA runs well on 3Ghz, will a 2GHz core 2 duo do just fine?

also, do you by chance know what video cards wil lfit in my ÿunker computer?

if not arma, ill simply play battlefield 1942 desert combat

For you emachine there is two possible slots that is probably has which either is only PCI or maybe an AGP, but unless you tell us what kind of mother board you have it's hard to tell.

Edit: Ok my bad you told me the kind of emachine and I looked it up.. it should have a AGP but i'm not sure if it's a 2x/4x or 4x/8x

im getting the card next month and my budget is around $200 i think. im gonna get good stuff, because i can jsut put it in my next computer, but for now im stuck with my oldy.

IF you overclocking your cmoputer (current one) and give it an good GFX then I'm sured it could play that game with a few lags :) Give it a try it your gonna get a new rig soon :D

im not quite sure what the motherboard is... its 1.66GHz.

how do i overclock (is that speeding it up? (im not too computer savvy)

its an agp i know that, with 3 regular PCI slots.

i just stuck a gig of ram in and i got an old 64mb geforce2 (lol) and im playing battlefield with no lag at all. although i see little miscolored boxes here and there?!?! any idea what thats all about?

There are 7 series AGP, loads of them but if your gonna get a new computer it would be a waste of money because it wouldn't work with the new computer. I suggest you just tough it out for now until you get your new computer, that's what I'm doing right now :D.

id like to tough it out, but ive been doing that for 4 years now.

does anyone know the highest card i can fit into my comp?? i just wanna play battlefield 1942 and nam. (already am, but minor lag and graphics are  )

im thinking about the XFX GeForce 6200 512MB DDR2 AGP 8x or XFX GeForce 6200 256MB DDR2 AGP 8x... whichever one will fit the computers agp slot... and work.
