Upgrading to newer motherboard?

Hello all,

I recently picked up an old Gateway E1800 for cheap. It is one of those low profile desktop computers. It has a micro-atx mother boardand it is a Kittyhawk 1.5 motherboard.

I has an intel celeron 1.1 Ghz processor, 256 MB of Ram (512 max). I was wondering if there is another motherboard that I can upgrade to. I would prefer to keep the same case just because I like its small size. Sorry I am relatively new to computer mods but have done some before. I am not trying to get a super computer out of it just something with a little better processor and that can have a higher ram max.

Thanks
Dan

That CPU is old, no the socket have probably changed. I suggest you spend $200 with upgrade of Mobo + RAM + CPU

Forgive me for sounding ignorant but what do standard front panel connectors look like and where exactly am I looking :o. As I mentioned I have only done minor stuff to computers so a lot of this is new.

Peace,
Dan

are the wires from the power button etc... to the motherboard normal wires, that go to pins, or are they a ribbon cable?

thats fine then, its just you sometimes have to be careful because the big manufacturers like to use them sometimes

So I should look for a micro AFX motherboard with that kind of front panel connector?

I was looking at this motherboards as it looks like everything should work. The only thing is that I have a 115W power supply and don't think it will be enough yo run it. I am trying to find a more powerful power supply that will work in my small case.

Alright, I will give it a try. I don't think there is a PSU that will fit into my small casing. I have read about people running PSU's on the outside of the comp as long at they are secured and have plenty of ventilation.

Also I was looking at this PSU, i hope this one will work with that mother board I posted earlier.

Hope I'm not causing everyone too much trouble.

Peace,

just so you know, a cheapass "500w" will only actually provide about 350w.

Dont be cheap when it comes to PSUS, as if it fails, it could toast everything.
