upgrading

Well, I am wanting to upgrade my computer from a Via board with a 1.3 processor to something better.

I am interested in the Athlons but dont really know very much.

I would like something that will work well with a cable modem, and be comproble for say another 3 or four years.

We play some games but thats not a priorty. Just a good board for home use.

What should I be looking for?

Well all I really need is a mother board and new memory since mine runs on the old stuff. I guess the budget for a new board pluss memory that was aiming for would be around 200 to three hundred. If I could go cheeper and just dont know it, Im cool with that too.

Or maybe I'm guessing at way too low a price for a decent to good mother board.

well if you get a new motherboard and new memory you might need to get a new processor too. What socket is your processor?

Generally AMD processors are good with games and such and Intel processors are good at multitasking. But for your use you probably won't see that big of a difference. You really can't compare clockspeed with amd and intel cause there's so much more that determines performance. Try reading CPU101.

the graphic card is agp and I would want a new processor with a new mother board. I think i need recomendations on a mother board, cpu, ram.

So is this your own company or one that are you familar with and trust? Its looks as though you have recomended basicly what I was looking at. I just didnt know what brand to concider. Thank you

I have a ... g-force. Dont remember the specs would have to ask my husbin. I let him go and buy that. Its nothing special. We tryed a fairly nice one and since the mother board was a little older or what not it didnt work. So we had to down grade from what we wanted.

lol, i wish it was mine, sigh*... but it's not, the company is great and very reliable

Well, thats sorta a crappy card, wont stand a chance in modern day games, but since you said that its not a priority to to play games then i guess i would ok... I recomend getting any DX9 level gfx card because that way it will be sure to play new games. Something like a Geforce 6200 for like $80, you'll be able to play modern games but not on high settings. If you or your husband arent gamers then theres really no point though.

We like gaming but we use our PS2. Yes a new video card would be great but we tend to piece things together as the funds arise. And a video card that will always play games at least is good until we can get better.

Now how about a recommendation for a good sound card. That’s my love anyway.
