How much of an improvement would I see in upgrading my current computer, in the sig, to a cheap quad core, maybe 1 8800gtx, and 2gb+ ram.


I mainly do gaming and basic stuff. Might get into video editing. And will be playing WoW soon.

Lol I love how you play off 'a cheap quad core, maybe an 8800GTX and 2gb+ ram...You'll see a HUGE improvement with the 8800 alone, as well as if you overclock the Core 2 Quad you're presumably going to get. The ram will be more than enough for video editing, which is not as ram hungry as most people say unless you go into editing videos with res over 1500x1500.
 
I was looking at the quad cores, and the cheapest was like $400. Opposed to $900.

But if WoW gaming and stuff only takes up one core, wouldn't 4 be useless?

What about overclocking my current stuff, and upgrading the RAM?

your quad core would pwn at video editing and recoding because that is what is really cpu intensive, and gaming it would still be great. i dont know if WoW is multithreaded or even uses multiple cores but either way 4 is better than 2 in cpus.

a Q6600 would be great soon at $266 (i think) and a GTX is always good, 2GB RAM is pretty standard for performance/gaming machine.

Would I notice graphic wise with my rig now with WoW and with the new planned rig?


And is there a for sure price drop date?

You can probably play WoW on high settings now right? So I doubt you would see a difference in WoW. But in other games you will notice a huge difference.
 
yea he's right about the quad core price drop, and for any new fps, you'll see a huge difference. 2gb of ram at 800mhz costs about $80, 8800gtx is around $530 , and core 2 quad is gonna be $266. $876 in upgrades >_> wow.
 
Lol my bad, I was just kidding. As we say...you could probably run WoW on a computer that uses a hamster running on a wheel as its power supply. Any of the setups you mentioned with simply blow WoWs pants right off.
 
What specs would a laptop have to have in order to play wow lag free, wireless.

Cause I need to buy a laptop for school now. Opposed to when I bought one a few months ago to mess with.

And if its possible, Ill get one to play wow to hold me over till I upgrade my desktop.
