Is it better if I upgrade the computer is it less expensive? My computer is slow and I was thinking of getting a new one but then should I do that are just upgrade certain parts to make the computer faster and more efficient?

You'd be best served to start new.

he's not lieing. In any case if you didn't want to spend money then a format and clean install of windows will get you back up to like new speeds for that machine. Most people don't maintain there OS so computers get sloooower over time.

bottom line is don't spend any money on that machine!

If you wish to keep the current rig (depending on what you use it for) backup the drive to save all your data, make sure you have an OP system boot disk (or whatever came with the machine) and re-install the OP system. As someone mentioned it will clean up a lot of stuff that has collected over the years and give the system a fresh start.

Aside from that the only other option is to increase the ram. 512mb is minimal and you would be better served increasing to 1 gig (DDR and DDR2 is reasonably cheap these days). It isn't going to make a huge difference but it will run a bit faster and more efficient.
