UPS battery

Is an UPS battery necessary for a good computer? Or would a simple surge protector be fine? I saw UPS batteries on newegg, but they seem pricy for something that doesnt seem necessary.

i think every computer should have one, i had just a surge protector and i was getting all kinds of errors and crazy shit happening on my pc, then i got a 1285va UPS and its been running like a dream :)

How long do the UPS batteries last?
The run-time depends on the type of UPS. They mostly range from 5min to an hour, but it depends what you have plugged into it.

There really good if you experience a power flicker, when you have a UPS the battery kicks in and it doesnt shut down, unlike just a surge protector.

So if I am going to get an UPS battery, should it be the same wattage as my PSU? What should I be looking for at a minimum?

where are you based, in the UK power dips are not really an issue, not enough to warrent a UPS anyway.

it hardly ever happens where i live, and i live practically in the middle of nowhere. The only times it would be useful for me was when we have a storm, and the power flickers ocassionaly.

It never happens until the first time it happens. :)
