Urgent advice needed: within next few hours

Sorry for the urgency, but basically im going out to grab a new hard drive tomorrow and so I want your advice before I do(since there's no point buying one if it wont solve the problem).

Basically i made a previous post, had two hard drives. One an old one, maybe two years, with C drive and D drive on it. The new hard drive purchased end of last yr has another two partitions.

Basically windows installed on the C drive while personal files are on the D drive. i was having alot of system tray popups of "xxx is corrupt and unreadable, please run checkdisk" etc. Got alot of those, did a few formats of C drive of the win xp OS between end of last yr and now, and the corrupt msgs still come back quite fast despite being clean installs. Recently i found that after transferring a few anime series back and forth between d drive of the old hard drive and the new drive, as well as transferring it to the new drive, they've become corrupt. Opening the bit torrent for the files will show these corrupt ones as say 10% complete, or 45% (for quite a few) . This is weird considering i DEFINITELY downloaded to 100% all of these files. Basically i took heed and copied everything off D drive. But yeah still didn't save what was already damaged/corrupted.

Anyway i made a post on all of this, and following advice i ran HD tune, western digital lifeguard tools (both hard drives= western digital) and i got NO errors. No reports of anything wrong, bad sectors(lifeguard tools) and so on. However checkdisk always gave alot of nasty looking entries when run.

Finally took the whole step of not just formatting C drive partition, but i wiped both the d drive partition this time, repartitioned the hard drive, and hence formatted both partitions again before reinstalling windows. On that same night(yesterday to be exact) i blue screened, could not load up windows as i kept blue screening as soon as the desktop loaded up.

I got fed up , loaded up the windows cd in dos, deleted the c drive partition/windows, and then installed a fresh windows on the second new hard drive, on drive F. Since then i havent got any serious errors/crashing or blue screens.

HOWEVER i noticed that i copied back from the new hard drive, pictures, files etc from the old hard drive back onto the D drive partition on the old hard drive. Alot of pictures showed up when i opened them on the old hard drive as ..O_o. Alot had a big bar going through the picture where the colours are slightly discoloured from the rest of photo, and some of the bars look like that part of the picture was cut off and slightly moved to the left or right, so like the hand and arm dont join up on the picture.

Basically the images are all screwed, but thank god their all perfectly fine when i view their copy on the new hard drive.

So my question is: does this warrant a new hard drive to replace my old one? I mean hd tune and western digital lifeguard diagnostics report NO errors, what do i believe?

Could i have a problem with the sata cable/thing that transfers data between the first hard drive and whatever? hence why things are corrupting/missing info when transferred from one drive to another? How can i test if the sata cable is at fault and not the hard drive?

Sorry for the long post! If someone could reply me before tomorrow morning that would be great. Would prefer not to simply buy a hard drive only to find out it doesnt solve the problem.

Cheers!

Please see the rules, don't discuss that here.

N E Way, excuse me if I got lost while reading this, but have you removed the C/D partition from the first hard drive and formattred the entire drive? I think FULL formats of your drives will clean them up a bit.

yes that was the last bit i was onto. Instead of just removing the c partition on the old hard drive and formatting it and reinstalling, what i did was i used the windows cd, deleted both d and c drive partition, then repartitioned c drive(but i gve it 2 extra gigs space this time). I then installed on C://, and in disk management once the OS was up i formatted D drive. After that copying the images back to D drive from the new hard drive gave me what i described.

After a few installation of programs, updates etc, i got blue screened and couldnt use windows anymore so i gave up. Booted the windows cd up, deleted the c drive windows partition, repartitioned it, and installed on F drive(the new hard drive). It formatted C:// before installing on F.

One thing im curious about, is it true that if i install windows on the second hard drive that the first hard drive eg: c:// will have boot files? so if i replace the first hard drive, my windows(even though installed on F://) will cease to work? I remember feintly the comp shop guy telling me about having to unplug the first hard drive if i dont want this happening(next time i install)??

anyway back to the original q... despite utilities giving me the green light, is the hdd broken? Or the sata cable acting up in transferring data? or the mobo that facilitates that transfer(i dont know if thats possible im just taking a guess).

P.S sorry about mentioning what i mentioned, didn't realise it was in the rules. I must say though that until licensed in the western countries fansubs are actually quite a good thing/promoted by japanese producers, even though not "technically" legal.

But yeap sorry, i will mind my words :)
