Urgent Help needed with my laptop [Big Problem]

Not sure if this is the right place to put this type of thread, but I am in safe mode and the res is really high so I can't see everything properly

Recently (past week) my Laptop has been going through very slow periods, about 30 mins until I force restart (hold power button). During that slow period, I basically have to wait 5 minutes for the little blinky line to appear when editing text. These slow periods happened about once a day, a couple of times I force restarted. But today I turned on my Laptop, and the WHOLE thing was just slow, Im talking longer than 45 minutes to start up (start all startup processes) and even so, the processes that do start up dont start up properly. Such as MSN, just sits on logging in (I have it set to Auto login), Malware Bytes gives me some Error code 2, Ctrl+alt+delete "fails to produce security options" sometimes, some random errors about processes come up. All in all, I just cannot do ANYTHING now. Right now I am in Safe mode, it isnt slow, normal speed. But once I start my laptop in Normal mode, BOOM, its as slow as telstra broadband (whoa thats slow). I checked on some Windows PC thing in the Control Panel, it showed that the CPU fluctuates from about 5 to 100% usage, mainly staying in the 50-500% range. It also says that 50% of the RAM is being used, but I dont even have any processes started. I am pretty sure that I dont have a virus, I scanned in safe mode with no infections. I installed Trend Micro Trial a couple of weeks ago and have been doing nothing out of the normal with my laptop (e.g Messing with the Reg).

Is there anything I can do? Should I reformat? (I dont want to, ive had to do it 2 times in the past and I have alot of school work on my computer) Should I take it to a PC Shop?

On another side note, my HDD makes bad churning noises when it gets hot, usually I tap it a couple of times to stop the noise. I have a fan blowing on the HDD, but its annoying when my hands get cold while playing COD and some noob owns me at 24 killstreak

ANY help would be appreciated (sorry if the thread looks messed up, I am in safe mode)

Either your hard drive is dying or you have a process that is using up your cpu usage and that is why your are slowing down. You said your hard drive is making noises, I would definately start there and have someone confirm you have a bad drive.

And just to be on the safe side, I would back up all the things you want while you still have the chance.

New update: cant startup in safe mode
gets stuck on loading crcdisk.pnp thing

ive backed my schoolwork and other important stuff onto an exthdd but i have still have gigs of other stuff i want to backup

is my laptop dying? D:
harveynorman is selling a $799 laptop (looks nice)

ill take it to a pc shop
