Urgent Monitor Problem

ok so today my friend was on myspace, then he clicked on one of my friends profiles. then all of a sudden my computer turned off. i was like wtf. i tried to turn it on but the computer only turns on for a couple seconds then shuts off. so i wait about a good 45 minutes. then i opened the case and checked all my connections and etc. then i turned it on again, this time it stays on.

problem is, now my monitor wont display anything. it says ' no signal' and the light is on standby. the computer stays on though. i checked the cable, turned the power off. etc. nothing. can anyone help me? reli reli urgent.

edit: my friend said it overheated and yea.. thats probably wat happened. hopefully notin burned out.. >_<. i still dont kno tho, the temps seem fine. wats the idle and full load for an AMD 64 processor? mines is about 41C

ok i just opened up my computer and turned it on to check things.. it doesnt seem like any of my hdd's are running. maybe they are and are super quiet, but i do not hear any sounds of spinning wat so ever. also my dvd drive isnt even workin. i press the eject button and notin happens.... ay ya.....everything else that is hooked up wit the psu is workin..even the case lights connected by the 4 pins. anyone knoe wats going on??

It could be one of a few things. Which one of the cases in your sig are you referring to? The battery on the board itself or a bad cap in the supply would be a pair of things where no beep code would be heard. A failed chipset, bios eprom, or a bad cap on the board could also stall everything.
 
im refering to my AMD 64 rig. so where or how can i start and try to trouble shoot this problem? i reli hope nothing is fried........
 
anyone?? my rig is only about a week old. so if u can help me, and if i find something defective then maybe it'll be possible to get an rma on it.
 
reseated, still nothing. even reset cmos and stuff too. still the same problem. note that no activity lights are blinkin on my case for hdd or anthing else. and cd drive doesnt work. pressed eject still nothing happens.
 
First off, I'm nearly 100% sure this has nothing to do with your monitor, if that already hasn't been clearified.

Now for the problem, I'd remove everything from the board. If it has onboard video and you have a GPU, use onboard. Don't use duel channel RAM, no expansions, don't connect any drives, etc etc. However, leave at least one hard drive's POWER(NOT interface) plugged in. Power the machine again and see if you can hear the drive any better than before. If you still don't have anything on the screen(and the drive works) I suspect you have a motherboard issue. If the drive still won't work, then it's probably a power supply issue.

alright ill try that tomo once i have some time. now thats reli weird. because everything else connected to the psu works. hsf, fan controller, fans, leds. just not the drives.... ill give u an updated after i do it tomo. anymore tips, feel free to post em.
 
do you have a spare PSU from an old pc or so?
you might want to try and put that one in ( dont worry,.. if its over like 200W,.. it will boot up,.. just dont run anything that could stress the grafic's card.)
Because by the sound of it.. the +12V rail of your PSU is shot :(

edit: but could you please say exacly what the pc does if you hit the power button to turn it on?

ok as i mentioned b4. all it does is turn on. nothing shows up on the monitor, the monitor stays on standby (orange light). all my LED's on my case lights up. fans light up and spin normally. fan controller works. it also uses a 12v rail. hsf lights up and spins, like normally. my leds on the mother board that informs power is going thru the ddrms and there is power are lit up.

things that dont work, or at least i dont think they do.
-dvd drive. pressed eject and noting happens. do not hear spinning etc.
-sata hdd drive, i do not hear spinning or feel vibration. either that or satas run VERYYY smoothy?
-i think i feel a vibration from my ide hdd.
-my indicator lights on my case, the one in front for power and hdd processing. they do not light up or show any sign of life.
 
ok, first of all,.. disconnect the HDD's, and the optical drives from the power supply... also, unplug all unnessecairy hardware from the PSU (caseFan's, Fan controller.) and just try to boot the pc with only CPU, Motherboard, grafic's card and RAM.

do you get any beep's by the way? (make sure the speaker is connected to the motherboard)

no i dont hear any beeps and ill try wat u guys have suggested tomo when i have time. thanks.

If you are not having a supply problem there are two things to look at. One of them would be the wires coming in from the front panel. The other is trying to jump start the system by jumping the two pins for the power switch. If nothing happens then you more likely to find the board as the problem.

And speaking of 200w power supplies those wouldn't power a web cam these days! Now you are going back some years to the old pre Pentium days where supplies were 180w to 250w on average. ATX boards require a bare minimum of 300w with 350w or above now strongly recommended.
 
methode 1: ok i tried to use one of my extra psu's. a 350w. stil the same problem. i only connected it to my mobo, video card, sata hdd and dvd drive. the dvd drive still doesnt eject. once i plug in my additional ide hdd. my computer wont even turn on. altho the onboard leds on the mobo light up indicating there is power.

The_Other_One's method: ok so i only left the power plugged into my mobo, video card, and all my hdd's and dvd drive. the dvd drive works! hdd works. i can feel the faint vibration. everything else that was connected works.
-i do not hear any error beeps.
-led indicator lights onboard are lit up. hsf (which is connected to mobo) works.

my final guess....... mobo problem?
