Urgent PC help needed asap please!

I just took the ram out of my home computer to see if it matched some my friend had given me, so i tried to slot it in but it didnt fit, so i replaced the original ram and switched the computer back on it is now coming up with an error message about the bios and says checking flopy drive... checking CD ROM drive and says not found for both of them. I opened the disk drive and placed a disk in there and Searching for p5s800vm.rom file came up and then faild.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? I've googled it but I dont understand what there talking about as im not up to scratch with all things computery.
The computer is a dell PC and it has a ASUS mother board in it. This is a family PC so it contains many files we wish to not lose.

Reset your bios. There should be a little button on the motherboard. when you have the computer upright, and the side panel, the button is generally in the lower, righthand corner. If this doesn't work, try the following.

Take all the RAM out, put one stick in. If it gives you an error, try a different slot, until you've gone through the all the slot. This will determine two things, whether the RAM is working, and whether the slots are working. Repeat the process with any additional sticks of RAM. Let us know what happens.
 
you probally pulled the IDE or Sata cord from the back of the hardrive or motherboard. did you double check all the cables?
 
You should check to make sure you didn't bump the cables in the hard drive when you were getting the ram. Just wiggle them in a bit, make sure they're in properly. There should be a power supply cable, and either a sATA (small thin cable) OR a IDE cable (wide flat cable), depending on your PC/harddrive.
If it still comes up the error message, go into the bios (Press the delete key when it says, generally immediately or a few seconds after you push the power button on your computer while it is still booting up). In the bios, set the boot priority so that the hard disc is at the top of the list (use +/- to order items in the list). F10 to save and exit. You may need to restart. It should then boot straight into the hard drive.

Thank you all for the help. I was un able to find the button, so I wiggled all the cables and took the ram i removed out and the computer booted up fine with the other ram in it. I then placed the other ram back in and a blue screen now comes up saying ' A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL'

But the Technical Infomation code is *** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000002, 0x0000001, 0x804f9D36) And it doesnt say anything about memory dump.

Edit: I went into the bios and I think I put the hard disk to top priority and saved and closed it and it booted fine. I then re booted the computer and the blue screen came up again.

So when you entered the bios and set the boot priority, you were able to load into windows fine?
The BSOD is because of a hardware failure. I can't tell you what exactly, but most likely RAM since you've been playing around with it. Try just using one ram stick and seeing if it will work, if not, switch sticks and try again.

You can reset the bios to factory/default settings in the bios. "Restore to default" or something along those lines, depending on the mobo manufacturer. Also, if you remove the CMOS battery for a minute, the bios will 'forget' and be reset to it's defaults. The CMOS battery should be a small round battery, like a watch battery but bigger.
 
If i open bios when the computer starts up it boots fine but then when i dont I get that blue screen. Ill switch the ram about and see what happens.
If that doesnt work ill factory reset the bios and go from there.
