URGENT! Phenom 9950 temp help!

Okay, I have a Phenom 9950 BE and the temps were fine, like 31-35Cish, then all of a sudden maybe yesterday or so the temps were 50-60Cish.

Just a bit ago I moved cables around to get them out of the way in hopes of better airflow, I checked the thermal compound (I bought Arctic Silver 5, that will be here eventually).

Well, when the computer is on but the tower on it's SIDE, the temperature is like 32.5-35Cish, but when the tower is UPRIGHT the temp goes up to 50-60Cish.

So, I'm wondering if maybe it's the heatsink/cooler? It's not the stock one.

The cooler might be pretty secure, I'm not sure what else to do except maybe tighten or loosen it... Anyone have a similar problem before?

Also, if this isn't the proper section, please feel free to move it.

Okay, a little update. I tightened the screws a bit on the cooler and when the tower was turned upright, the temps went up to maybe 44C... I don't know how much tighter they will go and also is it recommended to have a cooler fastened on very tightly or loosely or what?

Is the Arctic silver compound applied already, or are you waiting for it? What kind of cooler are you using?

Idle temps in the mid-40s aren't unheard of for a 125W+ processor if you're not using a quality cooler (nor is it particularly dangerous/urgent).

I'm using an Asus Silent Square Pro (http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=16&l2=65&l3=0&l4=0&model=1308&modelmenu=2) , not the stock cooler, and the temps were in the 30's before when the case was upright. But now the temps are in the 30's but while it's on it's side..and if it's upright, then they increase.

I don't want to tighten the cooler too much as I don't want to crack or damage anything.
I don't have the Arctic Silver 5 yet, I ordered it recently.

Just a bit ago I turned the case upright and the temp starting increasing, ugh.

Sounds like a loose fit between the CPU and Cooler. AS5 will fix it :) Just try and get the cooler on there nice and snug.

Maybe when it's turned upright there is a tiny gap that gets created and thus the temperature goes up quite a bit... dammit. I might just deal with it until after I get the AS5 in...good idea? hah

Just dont tighten it down to much and crack the board. Those after market brackets are a pain. Are you sure the fan is kicking in like it should when the temps. rise?

I checked to see if the fan was working earlier, and it was, however the only thing I have noticed of the fan speed flucuating in reaction to CPU temps if through the program SpeedFan. It seems the rpm's change as the temps do. Is there a different method I could use?

Most bios will have a auto and manual setting as far as the fan speed and temp. range. Did the CPU come with a fan speed remote?
