urgent problem, mousepad broken

I broke my mousepad a while ago when I accidentally spilled a drink on my computer, and it hasn't worked since. I didn't think it was a problem, as I don't like using it anyway, I use a wireless mouse instead, and when I type with it on I always touch it with my wrists and it moves the place I am typing.

However, my laptop is now running quite slowly, due to almost filling up the harddrive. I am going to get an external harddrive and copy any files I want over, and then I want to format it, to get it back to normal. However, because of the mousepad problem I don't know if that is a good idea. If it requires the installation of a driver, how would I go about installing it if I couldn't navigate around the screen to reinstall windows 7, or set up a new password or anything else important? I could end up ****ing up my laptop indefinitely, and it was an 18th birthday present, cost my parents a lot of money and it is only 8 months old. Ideally I would rather fix the mousepad than have to worry whether the wireless mouse would work, but I also doubt Asus would fix it as it isn't a fault, I accidentally spilled the drink on it.

The model is an Asus Notebook K70IO series

I just don't know how to fix it!

You can replace the touchpad, but it will require you to disassemble the laptop.

If you are comfortable with that, then look up your laptop model number in eBay and see if anyone is selling a touchpad.

I assume no responsibility if you royally screw things up, however.

All of my laptops are setup to use wireless keyboards&mouses, if I had to keep messing with a finger pad I would never get anything finished.:)

del monico is right, windows 7 will auto install any software needed, but some updates might not come through unless/until you activate the windows after installation. and for any reason windows 7 doesn't auto install them, just look your computer up on the OEM web site with the product number and find the missing file(s)

and with the slow performance, external HD might be a good idea, also defrag, ccleaner, disk cleaner.

but even if you fix the mousepad but don't want to use it, computer management and simply disable it. problem solves.

hope this helps.
