Urgent reply please: Moving hard drive partition problem

Hi, I've gone and done something dumb. I went to install Ubuntu 7.10 on my desktop because I hadn't done it since I got a new hard drive. I went to resize the partition and it looks like I accidently moved it as well without realising. It's taking about 23 hours and still has about 12 and a half to go. I'm worried about the wear it will cause to my hard drive. Should I stop it now and start everything from scratch? And if cancel it now, will i cause any other damage/problems for myself?

Just let it go, it should be fine. I don't know what GParted wll do if you try and cancel it. If you don't need any of the data on the partition then you could stop it now as if it doesn't undo what's already done then there's no harm.

i decided to stop it i'm afraid. it was a 500 GB hard drive and was taking too long. I got the new hard drive only a couple of weeks ago and have backups of most stuff (phew, i still have my crysis game saves). i'll work my partitions out when i install windows. i guess i was a bit precious about it because it was a new hard drive. i do this all the time though. back when i was using 350 mhz cpu and pentium 2 motherboard (about a year ago), i would reinstall windows every couple of weeks because i mucked around with it and would stuff it up completely.
