I know this message is long, but I need URGENT help on this..... PLEASE READ!!!!

Hey everyone, i know i said i wasnt going to be here for a while but i need help quite urgently. Im wirting this on my secondarty comp, my main rig is dying. All i did was install a driver for a keyboard and restart, now it doesnt boot at all.

It gets to the XP bit where the bar scrolls along, but 5 seconds into it it flashes up a BSOD with stop code 0x0000007E. Nothing substantial on the web about that.

So, i try safemode, still nothing, it gets stuck at "giveio.sys" although i kept trying and twice i actually got into windows in safe mdoe, so the problem is intermittent...??

Anyway, to the point, i CANNOT format, absolutely not, NO WAY, i have 2 dtabases and over 150 pages of work typed up on that drive, i CANNOT lose my coursework.

Ive tried system restore from safemode, it said restoration couldnt complete, ive uninstalled the keyboard driver, no help.

Ive actually run out of things to try, and that doesnt happen very often. I tried the recovery console, no help there, i tried doing an ASR (automated system recovery) but you need a disc, which i dont have......

What would happen if i just go and reinstall windows, will it get rid of the stuff in My Documents (even if the My Docs folder is situated on a seperate disc)???

cheers, dragon

well if you can't lose anything take out the HD set it up as slave in yer other puter backup your files that way you will beable to reformat if need be. just a thought though

A repair install may fix whatever's wrong, Windows will delete anything it doesn't like as part of it. I've done repair installs as part of motherboard upgrades, and everything gets saved, including games and documents.

However, tagguer is right, BACK UP while you have the chance, and before you try altering the windows installation in any way. Good luck man.
