Us Robotics dialup modem

A friend of mine who doesn't use the internet much, has a US Robotics internal dialup modem, V92 I think :D. It's on a Windows ME operating system.

Problem is, the driver software is updated and seems to be working, but... always connects at about half the speed of 56000 bps. Others use the same ISP and connect at around 50-52000 bps which sounds normal.

What do you think?

its the modem quality, location and other things like that, cause when i had dial-up modem i could only get 45.2kbps and i switched to a Motorola speaker phone modem i got 49.2mbps so its no big problem cause the download speed is usually the same:D

45.2 as well with my old robotics modem.

You'll never connect at the full, but half is definitely a problem. Check to see if it's truly a 56kb modem like Pohtaytoez suggested.

It could be that you have alot of "noise" on your line. That'll result in low connection speeds.

56k modems modems speeds slow down for may reasons. My 56k modem connects at 28.8k. We have bad phone lines out here.
