USB 2.0 problem

I try to connect my devices that I know are usb 2.0. I turned Hi-Speed on in my BIOS and I believe that my drivers are up to date. So once I turned on Hi-Speed, once I connect my camera or other device it does not connect. Also, it has fried 2 jumpdrives in a year... I don't know what to do or whats wrong. Since I am getting an MP3 player for christmas I need them working and fast.

I have Windows XP Professional SP2, an Intel 865PERL motherboard. Anything else you need to know, just ask.

I also have a PCI usb expansion and that doesn't work either. I don't use the ports the destroy things. They are in the front of my case. I just use the onboard ones.

Did you build the computer? If the front ports destoried anything, the wires are problably not connected to the board correctly...

If neither a PCI expansion or the regular onboard ports work, there's probably something wrong with the software. You shouldn't need any drivers for USB, so uninstall those if possible. XP should have everything preloaded for USB2.0 and such.

Do you get anything when you plug something in? A beep? An error on the task bar? Anything in the device manager?

Yes I built the computer. (thats why I didn't really care when it fried it)

When I plug in my card reader it sends power to it but it says that its working even though there is no card in.

And it still won't work when a card's in it? I mean, that's what card readers typically do... They'll power up and "work" with or without a card. However, you won't get any drives or anything until you stick a card in there it can read. Same goes for external HD enclosures.

In your device manager under USB it should be listed something like Standard Enhanced controller and USB 2.0 root Hub
